VP – Product Strategy, Cree
As vice president, product strategy, Mike directs Cree’s strategy externally and across all business units, continuing Cree’s industry leadership and drive for 100 percent LED lighting adoption. In addition to helping communicate Cree’s vision to the masses, Mike also leads initiatives and market execution for Cree’s consumer LED bulb family initially introduced in 2013, which has been pivotal in transforming LED technology from a novelty into a household name.
Mike joined Cree in 2010 as senior director of marketing and product applications, Cree LED components, where he oversaw marketing operations and applications engineering activities, and later became vice president of corporate marketing. During his Cree tenure Mike has seen the company through record-breaking milestones across business units, from achieving new benchmarks in LED efficacy to prototyping luminaires that exceed industry projections, and becoming one of the Top 25 Fastest Growing Tech Companies by Forbes in 2013.
Prior to Cree, Mike spent more than 15 years in executive management, marketing, alliance/partner development, and strategic planning focused on mobile and wireless technology initiatives. He led the project that created the world’s first voice/data phone; built and led the team that created the world’s first universal mobile payment service in Korea; and co-founded a company that built the first network that makes traditional media such as TV, print and radio, as interactive and targetable as Internet-based media. Mike was a co-founder of the Infrared Data Association (IrDA) and presided as its president for 14 years and has served as a board member of the Center for Telecom Management (CTM) at the University of Southern California (USC).
Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University in materials engineering and holds several issued patents in wireless communications and media.
