Nancy Bui-Thompson was first elected to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) Board of Directors in November 2008 to represent the 215,000 constituents of Ward 2 (Rancho Cordova, Gold River, Rancho Murieta, Galt, Wilton and Elk Grove). She is currently serving her fourth term and recently served as the President of the Board for 2021. For over 70 years, SMUD has served Sacramento’s 617,000 customers and is the nation’s sixth-largest public electric utility.

Nancy started her career in consulting 20 years ago, providing strategic advisory services for technology and policy implementations at Accenture, Deloitte, and Public Consulting Group (PCG). Most recently, she joined the executive team at WellSpace Health (WSH) as their first Chief Information Officer. WellSpace Health is a non-profit community health center system that provides comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health, and supportive services to more than 100,000 patients who are experiencing homelessness, are uninsured or have Medicaid.
The Sacramento Business Journal has honored Nancy as a 2017 “Women Who Mean Business” and 2011 “40 under 40” awardee. One of her greatest career achievements was being awarded the Marshall Memorial Fellowship from the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF).
She is a proud graduate of California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Management information systems.
