David Wade is President and CEO of EPB of Chattanooga and has served in various roles during his 30-year tenure, including hands-on construction, engineering and executive positions. Under his leadership, EPB launched America’s first community-wide Gig-speed internet service and deployed one of the most advanced smart grid electric distribution systems in the U.S. that, in the first 10 years of its operation, provided $2.7 billion in community benefit through job creation, research investments and more. In 2022, EPB expanded its core network to offer the country’s first community-wide 25 Gig internet service, and soon after launched EPB Quantum Network SM powered by Qubitekk, America’s first industry-led, commercially available quantum network designed for running equipment and applications in an established fiber optic environment. EPB Quantum Network follows years of work with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Qubitekk to develop real-world, fiber optic proving grounds for the development of a quantum cryptographic technology which earned recognition as a R&D 100 winner in 2021. Wade also collaborated with the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County to bridge the digital divide through HCS EdConnect. Developed during the pandemic to provide high-speed internet service at no charge to students in need, HCS EdConnect continues as a permanent program today serving 28,000 people. Wade serves on the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association (TVPPA) Board of Directors.
