Nick Koehler received a Bachelor of Science – Electrical Engineering degree from Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. In 2008, he joined American Electric Power as a Planning Engineer where he advanced through increasing levels of responsibility. Nick received his Professional Engineer license in the state of Ohio in 2012. Nick is currently Director of Transmission Planning for AEP. The Transmission Planning organization assesses the adequacy of the transmission grid and recommends capital projects and mitigation plans in coordination with RTOs and other stakeholders for the benefit of AEP’s customers. The organization also supports the company’s broader strategy to ensure a seamless grid that enables integration of emerging technologies such as renewables, energy storage, distributed energy resources, etc. His role at AEP includes organizing and managing all activities related to assessing the adequacy of AEP’s transmission network to meet the needs of its customers in a reliable, cost effective, and environmentally compatible manner.
